Zevin Asset Management, LLC has partnered with Foliofn Investments (“Folio”), an innovative online brokerage company, to allow us to offer two investment strategies to smaller clients.
Folio accounts use the same investment process and invest in most of the same securities as our larger accounts, however ETFs and ADRs are used in place of individual bonds and international stocks. These strategies have the same objectives of minimizing losses when markets fall while attempting to produce healthy returns in appreciating markets.
At Folio, each account mirrors one of two Zevin Asset Management model portfolios: a Global Appreciation strategy (which has a global equity benchmark) or a Global Appreciation with Income strategy (which has a global balanced account benchmark). The securities chosen for our model portfolios are based on our research into how stocks, bonds and other assets might perform in different economic or market scenarios, just as in our larger accounts. We then determine how the assets should be allocated among different sectors and regions to reduce risk, and then which individual securities to use. Both model portfolios will diversify into other asset classes, such as bonds or cash, when we feel stocks are overpriced or risky for other reasons A portfolio will typically contain between 30 and 60 securities, with a portion designed for protection in the worst outcomes.
Folio clients do not have customized portfolios and can only invest in one or both of the two models. Additionally, Folio clients are not provided with customized investment advice on their portfolio or broader financial circumstances. We partner with other financial planners and advisors who offer this service.
FOLIOfn Investments, Inc. (Folio), was founded in 1999 by a former Commissioner of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (“SEC”). Folio provides custody and brokerage services for billions of dollars of investor assets. As your broker, Folio maintains separate and independent records of all important account information and provides online access to statements, confirmations, tax documents, and transaction history.
