Zevin Asset Management Gives on Giving Tuesday

For the past seven years, the Tuesday following Thanksgiving has been dubbed Giving Tuesday, as a palate cleanser after the over-commercialized one-two of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. We at Zevin Asset Management would like to take this opportunity to tell you a little bit about a few organizations that we have supported, not only today but also throughout the year.

The National Lawyers Guild has worked for over 80 years as the legal arm of many social movements, and the National Lawyers Guild Foundation is an essential tool to fund these efforts. The NLG advocates for fundamental change in our political and economic systems, and is explicitly anti-capitalist, anti-imperialist, and anti-racist. Among the variety of issues on which the Guild works are the right to protest, prison abolition, labor and employment, environmental justice, drug policy, and legal education.

The Boston Immigration Justice Accompaniment Network (BIJAN) and their Beyond Bond Fund are a volunteer-driven association of faith groups, individuals, and other activists working to reduce the escalating harm of the U.S. immigration system. BIJAN provides accompaniment to court or ICE check-ins, legal referrals, fundraising for bond or legal fees, letters of support from the community, rides for families to visit loved ones in detention, and logistical assistance with paperwork or bond payments. The network’s values dictate that it respond only to requests directly from those in need or their representatives, treat individuals with dignity and choice, and fight for all people as a family.

MassVOTE is a nonpartisan organization seeking to increase voter participation in Massachusetts, in service of creating a government that is truly representative of its electorate. Among the organization’s programs are the Democracy for All initiative, which provides workshops and trainings, and partners with community and grassroots organizations to increase voter participation; the Fair Elections Agenda, which aims to advance fair elections through advocacy and education; and partnerships with the Black Census Project and the Women’s Pipeline for Change.
